Supreme Court overturns denial of standing to same-sex marriage parent
In Stankevich v. Milliron, the Court of Appeals had rejected the non-birth spouse's argument that she should be able to participate in a custody dispute involving a child borne by her same-sex marital partner. The intermediate Michigan court had held that since the partner was not related to the child by blood, she had no standing to participate in parenting issues. This week the Michigan Supreme Court acknowledged recent rulings by the federal court granting Constitutional protection to same-sex marriages and overturned the lower court's decision.
