Republicans propose bill to further exempt Michigan insurers from Consumer Protection Act
If any further evidence were needed of the cozy relationship between Michigan insurance companies and the Republican Party, one can find it in HB 5558 reported out of the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday. The bill would amplify the special protection insurers get from a bill adopted by the Republicans in 2001, by protecting insurance companies from liability for "continued long-term unfair or dishonest practices" that started before 2001.
