More than 651,000 applicants rejected for health insurance in 2007, 2008 and 2009 due to "pre-existing conditions"

Bloomberg News reported that together four insurers, WellPoint, Inc., Aetna, Humana and United Health, denied health coverage to nearly three-quarters of one million persons who were attempting to switch coverage from an employment to an individual plan. This practice is set to end with the adoption of the Obama health care plan, and roughly 75 percent of U.S. residents say they favor ending this practice.  Nevertheless, many persons running for office in November of 2010 have pledged to attempt to overturn the health care plan, so the window period when insurers cannot turn down potential insureds with "pre-existing conditions" may be short.
