Man who did not renew insurance on car cannot collect PIP benefits after being struck by another motorist

Frankie Taylor allowed his no fault coverage to lapse while he was living out of state.  After a "night on the town," he started for home, lost control of his car on a rain-slick freeway, and struck the median wall.  He exited the car, which was blocking one lane, but before he was able to reach a safe location, he was struck and severely injured by another motorist.  He and the Detroit Medical Center sued to collect PIP benefits (wage loss and medical expense) from the insurer of the car that struck him.  The Court of Appeals upheld a decision by the lower court that Taylor's uninsured vehicle was "involved in the collision" rendering him ineligible to collect PIP benefits from the other driver.
