Is irradiating produce the answer?
American consumers have been faced recently with one after another recall of fresh produce: tomatoes, spinach, iceberg lettuce, you name it. The Food and Drug Aministration, the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and the American Medical Association all attest to the safety of irradiated food, and NASA has been irradiating astronauts' food for decades, according to the New York Times. This technology may be the safest way to eliminate the threats of E.coli, salmonella and listeria which have sickened hundreds of American consumers and killed several in the past few years.
