Insulin syringes from WalMart and Sam's Club recalled
The New York Times reported today that Covidien, Ltd. is recalling 471,000 disposable insulin syringes because they were mislabeled in a way that could result in an overdose of as much as 2.5 times the intended dose. The Supreme Court is currently considering whether state court negligence actions against drug companies should be "preempted" by FDA approval of the drugs, as the Bush Administration has claimed. Prominent doctors have filed an amicus brief in the case, arguing against preemptive immunity, because they believe these lawsuits serve a protective function for patients.
