CPSC votes to eliminate all drop-side cribs after 153 related infant deaths
On July 14, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission voted to completely eliminate drop-side cribs. Apparently, they simply cannot be manufactured to an appropriate safety standard, given the potential for erroneous assembly, normal wear, and component defects. The CPSC vote was unanimous and included affirmative votes by holdover Republican appointees. Nine million drop-side cribs have been recalled in recent years. Additional information about crib safety is available on the website of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association.
