City of Pontiac's community center and recreational basketball league have immunity from negligence
The Court of Appeals recently held that even though the City of Pontiac generated about $1,000.00 per event during recreational basketball league nights, the endeavor was a legitimate governmental function and not a "proprietary" function. As a result, the City and its employees enjoyed governmental immunity from any ordinary negligence in the operation of the facility and the league. The case was Burford v. City of Pontiac and Ewalt Center.
