Chinese product liability reform

When it was disclosed that thousands of Chinese babies have been poisoned by toxic infant formula, and that the poisoning has gone on for months, the Chinese government demanded the resignation of its chief product safety regulator.  He got off lightly, however, as the last time the Chinese government was embarrassed in this manner, the official in charge was executed.  Doesn't do much for the families, either way.  Two deaths and more than 1300 cases of liver and kidney damage have been traced to the intentional use of a toxic chemical, melamine, to artificially distort the level of protein measured in components of the formula.  The producer of the formula had been aware of complaints since December of 2007 but failed to act.
