Republican judges hold that nurses cannot unionize because the "supervise" nurse aides
In yet one more step towasrd dismantling the last century's hard-won protections of middle-class workers, this week the Sixth Circuit majority in GGNSC Springfield v. NLRB ruled that a hospital could prohibit its nursing employess from unionizing by classifying them as "supervisory" employees---because their job included supervising Nurse Aides. Circuit Judge Merritt filed a stinging rebuke, dissenting from the decision and explaining how dramatically it departed from existing precedent and legislative intent.
