Court dismisses race discrimination claim against Department of State Police

Eric Jorge sued the Department of State Police, alleging that his termination was the result of institutionalized racism.  The trial judge dismissed his claim, holding that he didn't provide direct evidence that racism was a motivating factor in his discharge.  Because the Department claimed it terminated Jorge because of a co-worker's allegation that Jorge threatened him with violence, the Court of Appeals ruled that "even if Plaintiff's evidence showed that [the decision-maker] was racially biased" his discharge was not causally related to discrimination.
